Thursday July 24, 2008
If you've had a mastectomy you're already familiar with surgery and what to expect after the procedure is over. Now it is time to find consider finding a different surgeon, a surgeon who will work with you to reconstruct the breast tissue that is gone.

Some women opt not to have reconstruction, which is perfectly ok! The decision to reconstruct your breast (or breasts) is a very personal one. I've heard women say that they would be crazy to opt for reconstruction, it is the first time in years they have been able to go braless in decades, and I've heard other women say the opposite, that they would prefer not to go out in public until the reconstruction is complete.

There are many options available for reconstruction, but the most important decision you make, should you opt for reconstruction is this: Who Will Perform Your Breast Reconstruction? Your surgical outcome and your satisfaction with the results depend on your willingness to spend time Finding the Right Surgeon. You don't want a general surgeon who performs occasional plastic procedures. You want a board certified, highly experienced, PLASTIC surgeon who considers breast reconstruction one of their personal specialties. Trust me. In surgery, practice truly does make perfect.

You've already been through so much, choosing the right surgeon can prevent a nightmare of complications that can lead to reconstruction of your reconstruction.
