The Cleveland Clinic announced today that actor and comedian Robin Williams had successful heart valve replacement surgery 10 days ago. Williams was experiencing an irregular heart beat and was also found to have problems with both his aortic heart valve and mitral valve.

The surgical procedure performed included a mitral valve repair, an aortic valve replacement and a procedure to correct the irregular heart beat. The procedure used to correct the problem with the heart beat was not clear, but I suspect it was a MAZE procedure, which is often done for patients suffering a condition known as atrial fibrillation.

Williams is expected to be back to his normal activities in approximately 8 weeks.
