Surgery News: Nurse Caring For Michael Jackson Says He Asked For Diprivan-What is Diprivan?
Diprivan, also known as Propofol, is typically used to relax patients so a breathing tube can be inserted for surgery or to help patients tolerate being on the ventilator in the ICU setting. The drug is a first choice for many physicians as it wears off very quickly, allowing caregivers more control over the level of sedation that is obtained. Diprivan is also very unique in its appearance, it is blended in a fat emulsion that makes it look like milk, making it look as though a milk IV is being administered.
What is most alarming about this report is that patients who receive the drug are very closely observed, always on a heart monitor and typically on a ventilator or being placed on a ventilator immediately after administration of the drug. Diprivan can easily sedate a patient to the point where their breathing is altered, or even stopped, depending upon the dosage given. If a patient on a ventilator is fighting against the ventilator, this makes it easier to provide breathing assistance, but in a patient who is not on a ventilator the results can be disastrous.
It has not been confirmed that Jackson took this drug, which is given per IV, but confirmation that he did take it would certainly explain his unexpected death.

I thought there was some talk of demerol, and/or oxycodone as being implicated here. In any case, it seems clear that the number one candidate for cause of death is an unintended prescription drug overdose.
The demerol and/or oxycodone has not been confirmed.
From what I have been reading, Diprivan is usually just anesthestic for surgery–can it also be given just in an IV or injection (without being on a ventilator)? I also heard mention that MJ gave hisself injections–???
In the hospital setting, Diprivan (Propofol) is given via IV for sedation, with or without surgery. Giving yourself an injection is incredibly risky and has resulted in death for some diprivan abusers.
If it is given without a patient being on a ventilator, the patient is monitored very closely, as respiratory arrest is a real danger of the drug. That is done in controlled environments, like during a colonoscopy, with both the doctor performing the test and an anesthesiologist present.
After learning about the drug “Diprivan” and hearing from Michael Jackson’s nurse stating that Mr. Jackson was requesting that particular drug to help him sleep along with the drug being found in Mr. Jackson’s home; explains his “DEATH”!!! Also, “Why did Mr. Jackson’s doctor flee his home without taking his car????? My 5yr. old grandson can solve this mistery!!! Mr. Jackson’s doctor need to be questioned more or give a lie detective test to prove that he was not involved in the murder! But as far as the information that is out about the drug; Michael Jackson’s death is sitting on his doctor’s shoulder and I will be happy when it is brought out!

Let’s not jump to conclusions. If MJ was taking legally prescribed medications such as Demoral Or other prescribed narcotic painkillers then no laws were broken. Unless this Doctor went outside the law. From everything I’ve heard this isn’t the case. If MJ took more meds than were prescribed it’s not his Doctors fault. I guess well find out soon. The Doctor tried valiently to save MJ’s life! He is deveststed! We should not accuse him until we know the facts. By the way, the Doctor did not ‘leave’ his car. The police impounded it and have now returned it. Please get your facts straight.

The doctor did “leave” his car…but only because he was in the back of the ambulance with MJ…he stayed at the hospital for hours after, even being present when the news was told to his kids and other family members. He then spent several hours speaking with investigators. While he was “lawyering up” is when he was supposedly MIA, but then returned with his attorney to speak to authorities again. This guy is toast no matter what…his career is over…he is not even board certified, let alone certified to administer drugs only anesthesiologists are authorized to administer. he will forever be known as the guy who “killed” MJ or “allowed him to die.” Tragic…I feel sorry for MJ’s kids and family. I hope all the “licensed” individuals involved lose their ability to practice medicine and that charges are brought against them when it all comes out.
