Piano legend Billy Joel is recovering from surgery today after having both of his hips replaced. Known as hip replacement surgery, the procedure typically results in 6 or more weeks of physical therapy.
Billy Joel, who reportedly suffered from a congenital hip problem, is doing "extremely well" according to his publicist who made the announcement.
Now 61 years old, Joel has written and performed 33 Top 40 hits, has been inducted into the songwriter's hall of fame and the rock and roll hall of fame. He "retired" in 2003, but continues to tour.
There is no word on future tours.
