Best selling author Greg Iles had emergency surgery this week for injuries sustained in a two car accident. His procedure took place at the University of Mississippi Medical Center after he was airlifted from the scene. He is being reported as being in critical condition.
The author was treated for a life-threatening problem with his aorta (the large blood vessel that returns blood to the body from the heart), a broken femur, and an additional problem with his lower leg.
There is no information on the cause of the accident. The other driver, Amanda Freeman, also underwent extensive surgery but is expected to recover.
