Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan President, is still trying to recover from surgery to treat cancer.
Like Britain's former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Chavez was hospitalized for the holidays. Chavez is currently recovering in Cuba, having had surgery on December 11th in Havana. The nature of his illness has never been disclosed, but recent reports indicate that he is currently experiencing a post-operative respiratory infection.
Chavez recently appointed a successor to his presidency, should his illness be so severe that he cannot complete his duties as President. Chavez is scheduled to be sworn in for his next 6 year term in January, but some media outlets are questioning if he will be well enough to attend.
