On January 27th, a girl referred to as "Dafne" had major surgery. A C-Section to be specific. The girl lives near Jalisco, Mexico, and the hunt for the father of the baby, who is reportedly 17 years old, is underway.
Dafne reportedly did not realize she was pregnant until she was 7 months along. Her parents both work to support their 11 children, and were unaware of her condition. Both the mother and child are at home and doing well.
Teen pregnancy reportedly makes up 25% of the births in the impoverished area. C-Sections are common in very young mothers, as their bodies are often not able to accommodate a vaginal delivery. The risks to very young mothers are considerably higher than the risks that women of more typical maternal ages face, which is often exacerbated by a lack of prenatal care, due to fear of seeking care or not understanding that a pregnancy has occurred.
