Definition: Augmentation means to "increase, enhance or enlarge". Augmentation surgery is a procedure done to increase the size of a body part.

Breast augmentation is the most common type of augmentation surgery, and the fast majority of augmentation surgeries are the cosmetic. Other types of augmentation surgery include augmentation of the buttocks with implants, penile augmentation, chin, lip augmentation and cheek augmentation.

The term augmentation can also mean enhance or speed up, such as augmentation of labor, which means to speed or move the birthing process ahead by a variety of means.

Augmentation surgery is performed using implants, injectable fillers such as silicone or other types of fillers.
