If you had your gallbladder removed and you've had the unexpected side effect of diarrhea, diarrhea and more diarrhea you are not alone. As many as 1 out of every 5 patients who have their gallbladder removed develop chronic diarrhea. For some, the sudden urge and loose stools last for months.

As if it isn't hard enough to recover from surgery, the chronic diarrhea can leave patients dehydrated, feeling weak and can even cause muscle cramps as electrolytes and fluids are lost. In severe cases, the loss of electrolytes can even make your heart rhythm go from normal to abnormal.
