Surgery News: Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Marcus Davis Turns To Surgery To Keep Fighting

Monday July 13, 2009
You might think that a mixed martial arts fighter would turn to plastic surgery to repair a broken nose, or to repair other damage done during a bout. That isn't that case with Marcus Davis.

He sought out a Las Vegas plastic surgeon for a very different reasons-to stop the bleeding that was plaguing him during fights. Davis' surgeon removed old scar tissue, smoothed the bones of his eye sockets, and placed donor collagen around his eyes. All of this to repair damage done in fights that have led to copious bleeding during fights.

After having stitches 77 times, and sustaining an untold number of blows to the face, Davis bled easily during matches, even losing fights as blood dripped into his eyes, leading referees to stop the action and calling the opponent the victor. Now, Davis hopes he won't bleed as easily, and his fellow fighters are waiting to see if the procedures work. Plastic surgery may prove to be a better option than retirement for them too.

Marcus is still not on the top five list of UFC welterweights, but nobody can deny his skills and heart.
