Definition: LASIK is an acronym for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, an eye surgery that helps correct vision problems that are normally treated with glasses or contact lessons.
During LASIK surgery a laser is used to alter the shape of the cornea. The cornea of the eye acts as a lens, and if the lens is not perfect it can lead to vision that needs correction. By altering the cornea, myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and some astigmatisms can be corrected.
