Definition: Laser surgery is the term used to describe any surgical procedure that is done using a laser rather than a scalpel.

Laser surgery ranges from cosmetic procedures to remove hair or to remove tattoos, to vision correction surgeries such as LASIK and major procedures like brain surgery.

A laser is used because it is a highly precise instrument, and can be used to cut or even vaporize tissue. Laser procedures can reduce bleeding and, by increasing surgical precision, reduce complications.
